ECM drum grooves

Post by jazzmandan »

I am on a hunt and thought were best to take this other then my friends at Jamstix.

I am looking for ECM drum grooves.

Jazz/Rock/Latin fusion where the drummer controls and drives the movements in a very loose and rhythmic fashion (sorry that is the best I can describe it). But check out this video for a much better description.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Txe--PwJhEY

Or, like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3ytv3W ... g&index=40

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Perhaps Jamstix has a drummer you could recommend?

Do you have the Sophistica Pak? That is where I would start to try and get an initial groove going.

thanks for suggestion. I checked and it turned out I don't have that one. I was going to check for a black friday sale and then I saw the current price. Will pick it up shortly. Can't hurt.

Well I'll be damned, this is actually working for me!! How exciting. What is being played and how it is played appears to be on track for where I am going, BUT the drum kit needs to brighten up.

I tried different JS kits but they are very similar? In EZDrummer2 when I change kits I get pretty dramatic sound differences. Hold it, I found a boat load of kits.... Let me do some listening.

I was considering mapping the output of JS to the input of EZD2, but hopping to avoid that technical challenge and stay within JS.

Jamstix lets you choose among several midi out layouts, and EZ Drummer 2 is included: Click on the Mixer tab. On the next row down (Which has the LOAD and SAVE buttons)...
you have your MIDI in and Midi out choices. MIDI out is all the way to the right. Simply click that, and choose whichever drum VI that you're driving.

Also, think of the included kits as a starting point. You can change the characteristics of each kit piece a lot within Jamstix's mixer, with the built-in
EQ, compresion, and reverb. You can also mix and match individual kit pieces. To change any kit piece, click the KIT tab, and right click any piece.
Then choose whatever piece you want to try.

It was all going so well... then JS v4 just stopped playing into the first verse. Intro plays then rest of arrangement goes silent. the GUI still moves along but no sound. I rebooted and no help. I swear I did not change a thing in a perfectly playing 48 bar arrangement. Just closed it one day and the next day this happened.

Any suggestions?

Can you post the .j2d file somewhere for download so I can see if it plays on my rig? I'd also suggest using the Manager app to send an email to support and attach your log files.

OK, I sent log files to Support. Here is a link to the .j2d file? Thanks much.

I just tried it and it played through the entire song properly, so it's not the file. What tempo is the song supposed to be just out of curiosity.
