Triggering Hi-Hat Articulations in EZ Drummer

I'm triggering EZ Drummer 2 with JS4 and wondered how to think about and capitalize on the hi-hat articulations in EZ Drummer 2 which are available, such as closed edge, closed tip, tight edge, tight tip, etc.
So, I was just looking for advice here. Is it just case that the best way of looking in to this is by simply trying out the different drummer models and seeing how they 'play' hi-hat?
Or are there other easy ways of forcing, for example, a part in JS4 to have more 'tight edge' rather than 'closed edge'?
Thanks in advance,
Ian

I'd say look for the drummers whose hi-hat technique most closely matches what you want. I've found that the best way to use JS is as an organic whole, rather than trying to dictate the individual details at that level. Meaning, does the entire performance "sing" the way you want? Not just individual elements.
However, you can change the hi-hat style in many of the drummers' parameters. I don't know if you can get down to that level of detail, but I know you can control the degree of open vs. closed in some cases, for example.
Also, make sure that the articulations in JS match up to all the articulations in EZD before you go to all the trouble to check that out.
My guess is that JS has as least as many articulations as EZD, but that's just a guess. Some of the more deluxe sample sets, like BFD3, have way more "micro-articulations" than JS covers, but I haven't found that to be a problem.

Hi Ian,
I don't have EZDrummer2 but have played around with it and Jamstix. I have never been satisfied with the translation between the two personally. Granted I have not spent a lot of time trying to make it work satisfactorily but to my ears it simply loses the Hi Hat's realistic intricacies when trying to drive any other VSTi with Jamstix. Crashes and Drums themselves are fine, I just never was happy with Hi Hat resolution.

Articulations in 3rd party plugins that are not present in Jamstix cannot be used directly since the Jamstix brain does know how to use them, so to speak. However, Jamstix supports closed edge (normal) and shanked hihat playing with combinatory modes. You could use this for your edge and tip articulations in EZD 2 in any combination.
Example: assign 'tight tip' to the normal Jamstix hihat closed sound and 'tight edge' to the shanked sound in Jamstix. If you now select a shanking behavior for your Jamstix drummer, you will hear both articulations used accordingly.

Many thanks both...I'll do some experimenting.
