Making a custom map to use with Kontakt... how..

Hi All.

Is there any resource, or article that anyone can send me a link to, that would take my through how to make a custom key map in Jamstix for use with a custom drum library with Kontakt?

I have got the two to work really well together. But when, for example a bass drum is "played" by the Jamstix, it might actually play the snare in the sampler. I just need some kind of explanation of how I write a file to then load as a custom key map....

.... of can I select a specific drum in Jamstix, say the kick, and specifically assign that drum to a different key, so that the midi output is then with the key I need in Kontakt?

Thanks in advance for any help here.

Great product!

Mark

In Jamstix, open the "Kit" tab and load the kit you want to modify. Left click the kit piece you want to assign a midi note to and then left click in the "articulation" display at the bottom of the window to choose the sample you want to change. (Note: not all kit pieces have multiple articulations.) When you choose the articulation, the note that it is presently assigned will appear in the "Key" display. Left click the note that is displayed and choose what note you wish to assign from the menu that opens. After you assign all of the kit pieces how you wish to, save the custom kit by clicking the "Save" button at the top of the window then name and save the kit.

Hey - many thanks for that - it works a dream and just what I wanted :)

I had been to this screen before, but got a bit confused. I thought the assigned notes were to do with notes INPUT into Jamstix (as for the kick it was set to C1 and that is the note that produce the kick sample). However I noted that for one of the toms, the input note (played on piano) was say G1, but the assigned note was set to A1 (so that playing G on the piano would sound the tom in Jamstix as would would expect, but would "play" the A note in Kontakt. That is the bit that got me confused.

However, from what you have said, and from my tests just now, the note you are telling me to assign as the OUTPUT note that is sent out of Jamstix and as nothing to do with the midi not INTO Jamstix. Have I got that right?

Thanks again, so helpful!

Hi Mark,
It actually assigns both, the incoming midi the kit piece responds to AND the midi data the kit piece outputs. Glad to help.
