JS4 + Battery 4 + Brush Kit = no stir fry

Post by Foolomon_ »

Quick question:

How do I get the stir fry to work if I'm using JS4 to drive MIDI output only into Battery 4's Jazz Brush kit.

I'm using the Jazz Shuffle style + James Stix, and on the verse bars I changed the Brushing section to Beat. But I'm getting no sound. The Battery 4 kit has the samples for stir fry in it.

That sounds like a mapping issue. It sounds like nothing being output by JS4 is mapped to trigger the "stir fry" samples in Battery.

As Azimuth said, sounds like a mapping issue. Find the MIDI key for the 'stir fry' sound in B4 and assign it to the snare brushing articulation in the Jamstix kit editor.

B4 has the Jazz Brush kit loaded.
JS4 has the Brushes kit loaded.

In B4, Snare Stir Short LH/RH is mapped to E1. I go to Kit Piece = Snare, Articulation = Offset. I select MIDI OUTPUT ONLY. I then have to click a different entry in the list and then click back to Offset (bug in JS4) in order to be able to click MIDI KEY and set it to E1. I click on Assign.

I then try to click on the snare in the graphic kit with Offset selected in the Articulation list to get it to trigger. Nothing happens.

For what it's worth, the Center articulation is assigned to D3. But when I look at the properties in B4 for the cell that it's actually triggering, that cell is assigned to D1, not D3.

Feature request: I decide to try to assign Offset to E3 thinking that JS4 has a bug that is showing the wrong octave for the assigned MIDI key. The list says that the binding is in use, but I have no way of determining which articulation it's bound to.

I really don't want to have to create a kit from scratch for this, so I'm going to do some simple, live percussion and shelve JS4 for a while until either a few more patches come out or until I have the time to figure out how to work around its idiosyncrasies. Or maybe I'll go back to JS3 since I know all of its quirks already.

You can switch the note naming in the Jamstix 4 Options using the 'Use Yamaha pitch...' toggle.

Use Kit menu -> Show Key Map to see what articulations are using what MIDI key.
