That's much cooler than I thought it would be Ralph. I personally didn't care about varying the perspective of the GUI either but that actually is decent. Can't wait to get it.

Wow, I am so not a fan of the new drum images. I love seeing pics that look like classic drum sets. As a home hobbyist that rarely gets to see live drums, maybe it's because it makes me feel connected to the musicians I admire. But that aside, I would ask for an option to be made available for "classic Jamstix drum view".
Otherwise, looking forward to JS4 release!

I sent you an email. But for the sake of involving more people in the discussion, I am also posting my idea here:Ralph [RZ] wrote:There's no delay because of the virtual kit. It simply was the most 'visual' thing to post for screenshots. There are lots of functional improvements in JS4. As far as drag-&-drop of bars is concerned, can you send me an email with the exact things and workflow you are looking for?
Hi Ralph,
on the forum thread in which you show a peek of the 3D rendered virtual drum kit, I commented that, as a user eagerly awaiting JS4, I would rather see the window real estate, computing power and coding resources be devoted to something more useful. There you have this tremendous real estate just waiting to be put to good use in the workflow giving me nothing that would help me create good music in an efficient way at all.
In this context I suggested that what would really help me would be a way in which I could easily do stuff to a collection of bars at the same time. "Stuff" here could be selecting a range of bars and moving them around. Or expanding a part by inserting a certain number of bars. Easily applying certain style/brain/groove settings to a range of bars. Or maybe splitting one part into two, changing the power level, etc. The list is really quite long of what I could potentially use this expanded song view for.
I envisioned a kind of matrix arrangement of little rectangles, where rectangles belonging to the same part share a common color (see below).
[img:8dc48adef3]https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1559/251 ... 8da4_z.jpg[/img:8dc48adef3]
Each rectangle would be labelled by its bar number as well as show me if there is a groove/accent/fill already composed for it. I would like to see all three aspects in one view rather than having to choose different views (as is currently the case with JS3).
I see myself using standard Windows techniques of selecting a collection of rectangles. This would entail using a selection rectangle, Shift/Ctrl-clicking etc.
With the selection I want to be able to cut/copy/paste it/its style/drummer as well as drag it some other place for a new arrangement of bars.
I would like to be able to zoom the view using standard techniques (e.g. the mouse wheel) so that I can see the entire song or just a couple of bars. The details showing in each rectangle would adjust according to the zoom level. Zooming way into a bar would seamlessly switch to the bar editor view. So this big work area empowers me to play with my song and examine it in different ways. It would be a great improvement to my workflow.
I hope this makes sense to you. If you want to discuss this further, I am happy to do so. I am a stickler for the design of GUI and have consulted with companies on that aspect. But, of course, I am happy to share whatever expertise I might have with you for free for the good of JS4.
Greetings, -- Chris.

I'd like to see a tighter integration with the DAW - especially in conjunction with arranger tracks.

Looks & sounds good Ralph, but honestly, I'm more interested in what the difference between V3 & V4 are myself....Either way, I'll probably buy/upgrade when you do release it, & I'm actually pretty excited about it....

Hi Ralph, im in the 'rather have musical functuality rather than visuals' camp too.
Any chance the extra space can be used for increasing time signature capability? It seems Js3 is Limited by the number of divisions in the bar editor.
And actions like set style or drummer model or say time sig to various bars would be a lot quicker than creating new parts all the time.
Thanks.

Yes, JS4 will support higher time sigs in wide screen mode.keys_reaper wrote:Any chance the extra space can be used for increasing time signature capability? It seems Js3 is Limited by the number of divisions in the bar editor.

I hope that ugly "virtual" kit is only an option....
