EZX kit Mappings

Post by The_B »

Hi Folks,

just bought Jamstix 3 as well as Superior Drummer 2.0 and a couple of EZX.
Great stuff, lot's of fun, wonderful workflow, excellent results.
I searched the forum for mappings, found a few hints, but nothing real, just some Reaper files.

As far as I figured that out by now, a basic mapping is quite simple, but if you want to map i.e. all HH and snare variations right, you can spend some hours...

Are there any official mappings (as announced for Jamstix 2.?) or a user made collection? It makes no sense not to recycle that.

If nothing exists, I will spend that day and post the outcome here if no one convince me that it's a bad idea. But I hope there is something out there that I missed ;-)

Peace,
B.

There is a SD2 mapping in the 'DFHS' folder that comes with JS3. Creating a map from scratch should not take longer than 20 min. and any subsequent mappings for the same module should be much quicker.

Perhaps I am a bit slow or too much of a perfectionist, but I spend significantly more time than 20 min. for the first kits. Ok, you get quicker results after a while, since HH and snare mappings stay quite the same, but each kit has a new challenge (if you want to max things out).
For quick & dirty, you are absolutely right, i.e. a Battery 3 Kit takes max. 2 minutes but there you don't have to think about details...

Since the forum does not allow attachments and no one seems to be interested...
Perhaps it's better that way, since there is no "right way" for the mapping and several other settings.

From my perspective the default mapping for SD2 is a bit funny, since not all articulations of the HH are mapped, even the EZDrummer mapping has more HH articulations.
Perhaps doing it yourself is the best way to get a feel for the kits ;-)

I am not only slow, but also a bit dumb.

I have EZDrummer and Superior Drummer and did the mapping with EZDrummer.
Not a good idea, Superior makes your life easier since you can not only hear each articulation, it shows you the key as well.
I did that with the EZX-Keys.pdf. Takes a bit longer to search and translate...

I searched the forum again, found nothing.

After editing the Superior 2 mapping I get:

The sound Cymbal Choke has no assigned MIDI key.

Found at least a section in the manual about that. Ok, jamstix3.ini
Hmm, empty file. That means no CC4 for the HH, right?

You really learn a lot doing your own mappings...

Just a hint: It is nice that you get warnings before saving a kit.
But you don't check the routing, so I get warnings when I use the same key in the subhost context and internally.

Peace,
B.

Ok, I am to stupid for this program, I give up.

Tried to copy the example section from the manual (Acrobat Reader 6.0/PC) and get only garbage when pasting. Same with Preview on Mac.

This is one too much, bye bye...

I second the "superior 2 mappings sound funny "for lack of better words - the hi hats never seem to translate - when i got superior 2 , i redid a lot of the older jamstix projects mapped to SD2 and it was beyond frustrating - none of the drum tracks translated well and i stopped halfway through.
I tried to figure out the mapping - but besides Ralph trying there really isnt too much good will here when it comes to sharing user created maps( i have even offered to pay )
l'll still always support jamstix even if i dont use it as much if only for the fact that Ralph has been so good about pricing and support.
It would be [b:b75c27067b]really[/b:b75c27067b] appreciated if you could post your JS2 to SD2 kits !

We're looking at improving the choke editing.

The_B: could you send me the SD2 kit you have so far? I'll see about fixing it up. Also, what HH articulations did you find missing in the SD2 map?

As I wrote, I am willing to share that stuff, but this forum supports no attachments and I don't have a website I could host that stuff.

But I will send my results to the admin here, we'll see what happens.
