Jamstix for Mac?

Post by Jason »

ah, fair enough. i'm, ahem, cough, working right now too.

but for someone just using their Mac with Bootcamp for one app at a time, there's no real downside, is there?

cheers.

Windows IS the downside.

I ran boot camp yesterday, to get updates and maybe play a game if I had time... it was horrible! The whole desktop locked up for minutes at a time because of a network change. Installing things required way too many reboots, and I didn't have CoreAudio. After about an hour of messing around, I didn't get to play my game anyway. I couldn't even play my iTunes library off the network in the meantime.

It's a bit different for full-time Windows users, they do all the maintenance stuff regularly, if it hangs up or needs updates, they probably have fixed it by the time they want to play music. Boot camp is an occasional thing, and going from "it just works" to "why won't this work?!" is a jarring experience. It's not what you want to do when you want to play music.

(And I do have a ton of experience in every single version of Windows since 3.1)

Bootcamp is not the best way to use jamstix on the Mac. Checkout CrossoverMac. It works with that and will integrate with your mac audio software that way.

Jamstix for Mac?

Post by Brian »

Hi,

I'm trying to use Jamstix 2 with Crossover Games. I've got it working except for one problem. The one problem I am having is that whenever I open a dialog box in Jamstix , clicking the "LOAD" button in the Kit window to load a drum kit for example, the dialog box slowly moves down my screen until it goes off the bottom. Even if I try to grab the dialog box or click in it it keeps moving down. Eventually it goes off the screen and the main window of Jamstix will not respond to any more mouse clicks. Has anyone else seen this? If so, how did you fix it? I have edited the .ini file with the line "BlockMouseMove=1".

I am running Crossover Games in a 2.16GHz MacBook Pro with OS X 10.5.5. I am using Mulab 2 as a host (I've also tried Reaper) and I can send MIDI from Jamstix to Logic via the IAC bus.

Thanks,

Brian

Can I add my plea for a native Audio Units version of jamstix - I recently switched from PC/Cubase to Mac/Logic, and jamstix is the only thing I'm missing. I know there's a of development involved, but I'll live in hope.

Chris :)

i'll add my request for a native Mac version...

but until that time - has anyone had any luck running it inside of Parallel's Desktop 4? I have that installed, but i'm not sure about routing midi from windows in Parallel's to Logic.

thanks

Jamcussion is absolutely fantastic – it's saffron, chili, curry, whatever you need to spice up your rhythms!

And the good thing is that now that Jamcussion is out the door and Ralph is sitting around twiddling his thumbs – now is the time to finish the Mac version!

Seriously, now that MrRay and VB3 are Mac, Jam-stix/-cussion is basically the only reason I still have an XP partition on my MB Pro (I have no patience to start messing around with Crossovers and half-baked solutions like that).

So, please, Ralph – once the glitch fix Jamcussion is done, give us the native Mac version!

Many thanks for J-cussion and best regards,

Joey

A great start would be a Jamstix 2 sample player... "drum module mode only"... for now :)

I could handle generating some MIDI beats in the Windows version and saving that for the Mac version - it would be more flexible than rendering it all the way to audio.

I have now also converted to Mac and wish I could use the great drum tool of Jamstix, as I am use to in the PC world.
