Jamstix & REAPER

I use Reaper also, latest version of JS & Reaper both, and have not noticed any problems like this. I would suggest backing up your harddrive asap because I suspect you may have a drive that is failing. This is just a hunch based on past experience that had similar symptoms.

I appreciate the response. I don't think that's the issue, though. I am a programmer and I have a long background in IT. This isn't a hardware problem--it's too specific to the difference between the .j2d files and between JS 3 & 4.

Why would JS 3, which is using the same .j2d file as JS 4, show none of the same issues with it?

I just tested the hypothesis that there is some sort of hard drive error associated with the .j2d file. I copied the .j2d file to a different hard drive and loaded it back into JS 4 from there. The problem still exists.

The only other possibility is that there is a hard disk error associated with the JS 4 installation, but I find that difficult to believe. This is a fairly new PC and I am seeing no other evidence of any issues with this drive.

I hesitate to go to the trouble to uninstall JS 4 and reinstall it to a different hard drive, because my gut tells me this isn't a hard disk problem. Years of programming experience tell me this is some sort of bug or incorrect setting in JS 4.

One thing I just noticed when loading the .j2d file: the load is instantaneous. I just saved it to a different name on the 2nd hard drive. The save of the same file to a different name took 3 minutes and 27 seconds.

But thanks again, I appreciate your thoughts.

No problem, it was only a suggestion. The issue I had exhibited the same symptoms saving files with only one program and no other. I always assumed it was a bad sector where the program was written or a servo issue addressing a particular track. But as I said, it was only an assumption. The drive quickly degraded and died completely shortly afterwards. Just a heads up.

Right. Thanks. I have lost hard drives myself with the same symptom.

Something I just noticed on this when looking at the .j2d files.

1) File size before I had the problem: 68kb
2) File size when problem first occurred: 120kb
3) File size after saving the file this morning: 242kb

The difference between 1 & 2 is I edited the kick drum to match the bass.

There should be no difference between the #2 and #3. I changed nothing. Why did it double in size? Perhaps that's a clue...

You could use the Jamstix Manager to send your log files to Ralph for his review and explain the situation. He's pretty busy at the moment with the OS X beta but I'm sure he'd check it out for you.
EDIT: Send the j2d file also if you can.

Yes, send me the files to check that out but first make sure that 'Save minimal undo states' is checked for Jamstix 4 in REAPER. That may solve the problem already because otherwise REAPER will request the JS4 data every time the GUI window is closed, for example.

Thanks!!

My current REAPER Compatibility settings for Jamstix are were as follows:

CHECKED
Hard reset on playback start
Save state as VST bank
Automatic notifications: Default notification settings

NOT CHECKED
Save minimal undo states
Avoid loading undo states when possible
Buggy plugin compatibility mode

-----------
I turned ON "Save minimal undo states."

I was then able to to close the Jamstix FX window instantly.

Saving the project (which has nothing in it except the 9 JS 4 tracks), took about 1:35 seconds.

Saving the .j2d file took about 1m 20s.

Should I change any of the other compatibility settings?

Just to add to the diagnostics Ralph and Chris, except for checking "minimal undo states", that matches my settings in Reaper exactly.

Hello Ralph,
I purhased Rayzoon 3 and many Drumpakcs times ago...then quit recording for a while. Now I downloaded rayzoon4 to test it on 2 PCs with 2 DAWs but I always have the same problem:
After Razoon installing - audioM8.dll and jamstix.dll are VSTPlugins folder, but only audioM8 is showing up in the DAWs.(It's not listet under the DAWs Vst & audioM8 just shows up with a white square)

After rescanning or puttting them in a subfolder: again: only audioM8 shows up in the DAWs.
Its on a fresh Windows7 or 10 and fresh Reaper installation.
What can I do... I like Razoon the best but I can't use it :-)
Thanks for any hint.
LG Andrea
