Jamstix & REAPER

Hi, One other thing you can try for the font problem is:

Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Display

Check "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays"

Change from the default of Medium 125% to Large 150%

Still trying to resolve this. I've now actually used a ruler on both laptops to confirm that it's a font issue, not an overall display issue. Images *are* smaller on my new machine, but only by about 10%. The text in the Jamstix UI is smaller by a good 30% and there is much more (and unnecessary) black negative space. The smallest type, like on the options screen, is unreadable without squinting and leaning forward.

I don't seem to have similar issues with other plugins, but I don't have anything else that's this complicated either.

I've now played around with the theme editor in Reaper to no avail.

Back at this today. Needed to record a quick demo, tried to no avail to enlarge Jamstix3 text for a couple of hours instead. It's literally a headache to use. The last thing I tried was to simply enlarge everything via Windows as suggested above. To add insult to injury, that not only enlarged the UI to beyond my laptop screen, but also the text [i:6e6020f929]seems to still be the same size.[/i:6e6020f929]

FWIW, I continue to fiddle.

I dug out my old laptop, took a snap of the Jamstix UI, then updated Jamstix to the latest - no change, font looks fine. Updated Reaper to the latest, restarted everything - no change font looks fine!

So whatever it is, it only happens on my new - and quite ordinary - laptop.

Back to the new machine, re-installed both Reaper and Jamstix, font still tiny. Uninstalled Jamstix, installed 32-bit (like the old laptop) - got "cannot communicate with core" error message, uninstalled 32, re-installed 64, no joy.

Opened a bunch of other plugins from different places. Nothing else seems to give me such small print. So while, on the one hand, it doesn't really seem like a Jamstix issue, it also kind of does.

From years as an IT tech support in a large (4000 pc's) I would remove, or at least move, any fonts from the machine that were not stock windows, and check the naming on the font to make sure that an older font with the same name (but a newer date) got installed.

Just a thought...

Here's long-overdue update on my "teensy font" issue.

For the record, I did send Ralph what he asked for and we had some subsequent correspondence, but he never pinned anything down from the JS side of things. Since no one else had a similar problem, it was looking like the problem was a phantom in my particular machine.

So I fiddled. Eventually, I tumbled to this: if I changed my laptop's overall display resolution to something (anything) else, then immediately changed it back to the default, then restarted the machine, the Jamstix font improved. I'm not even sure if it's any bigger, but the resolution is remarkably better. It's legible. It's usable.

If I created a *new* Reaper project, I got the same old awful, teensy font. But repeating the steps above "fixed" the situation in subsequent sessions.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and hoped that whatever weird thing is going on would fix itself. But no. I still have to jump through the same hoops for new projects. But that's okay - I'll take it.

Did you ever try the DPIXOverride setting in jamstix3.ini?

Yes, a_zimuth had pointed me to that but I tried it and got no change. Wow, it's a year ago tomorrow!

I thought maybe I should try it again since I'm on the new operating system but I see that I still have 125 value in there.

Honestly, it's okay the way it is now. I have to do a little dance when I set up a new Jamstix track, but after that, it seems to be okay.
