Jamstix & FL Studio

Post by joe_ »

Hello all, I have Jamstix 3.6.1 [x64] loaded and playing in FL Studio 12.0.2.

My question is: How do I setup Jamstix to learn from other tracks in the Channel rack in FL Studio to utilize Midi Jam Mode in Jamstix?

I figured out how to send midi from Jamstix to Modern Drummer in Kontakt by setting the Output Port in the VST Wrapper of Jamstix to the same Input Port of Kontakt, but I can't get Jamstix to see incoming midi from other tracks using the same method.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It should be as simple as setting the MIDI input on the Jamstix MIDI track to the source you'd like to use and switching to MIDI jam mode.

Hi Ralph, thanks for replying.

Should I see the MIDI-IN light blink like I see when using Reaper? I don't see it in FL Studio.

Thank you very much!

Not sure about FL Studio but you may have to enable monitoring in FL on the Jamstix MIDI track.

I was able to get the midi input light to blink. It happened by accident either after a reboot or a new project, I don't remember what or which. If I figure out what happened I'll report back. Thanks again for this great software!

Now that FL Studio supports time signature changes (since version 20), I'm wondering if there's any chance of setting Jamstix to "talk" to the DAW accordingly?

I absolutely LOVE Jamstix, but, as of now, it's impossible to sync to songs in 5/8, 6/8. 7/8, 19/16 etc etc. in FL Studio.

If anyone can provide some guiding light, it will be much appreciated!

5/8, 6/8, 7/8, has been possible for years in Jamstix. In fact, it can do up to 9/4 or 18/8. Have you tried and something didn’t work?
Or maybe I am misunderstanding.

I don't use FL so I can't offer specifics but you have to have corresponding time sig change markers in FL. Jamstix follows the Host, not the other way around.

First, thanks for your time, Azimuth

Well, that's the problem: whenever we change FL Studio's time signature, it doesn't seem to communicate that change to Jamstix properly. It is VERY strange and makes no sense whatsoever.

I don't believe the problem is in Jamstix but on the DAW itself. But what I'm searching here, desperately even, is if anyone knows of a workaround to make FL Studio communicate properly with Jamsitx.
